I’m Anna Jacobsen, a neighbor and parent who believes strong communities are built through everyday relationships. From longtime residents to families just getting started, the people I’ve met in Claremont have shaped how I see this city and the leadership it needs. I’m running for Claremont City Council (District 4) because we are strongest when residents are heard, respected, and included.

Claremont is an incredible place to live, but many people feel disconnected from decision-making. I want to change that. For more than 15 years, I’ve worked in and alongside local government, helping cities engage communities and bring ideas to life. When we listen early, collaborate openly, and focus on what unites us, we get results.

In our community, I founded Better Claremont Playgrounds after listening to neighbors who felt unheard. I started it because I care about this community and wanted to help lift up my neighbors’ voices. What began as simple conversations at parks and schools grew into a citywide effort that ended the like-for-like policy, which required parks to swap old equipment for the same thing, successfully advocated for a new park improvement planning model, and helped shape more inclusive processes for Lewis Park and Larkin Park. We accomplished this together because residents cared enough to speak up, and I cared enough to make sure their voices led to action.

I’m running because I want a city where residents feel truly heard, where decisions are transparent, and where our public spaces reflect our shared values and evolving needs. Claremont deserves leadership that listens with care, works hard, and brings people together. That is the kind of leadership I will offer.

My VISIoN

"Let’s build a better Claremont together."

A better Claremont starts with building on what already makes this city strong. I love this community, and I believe in what we can accomplish when neighbors feel connected, supported, and included in the decisions that shape our future.

REINVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITY

Claremont’s greatest strength has always been its people, and strong communities grow when we invest in connection and shared spaces. For years, the city has focused on rebuilding financially after the Golden State Water settlement, which meant delaying improvements that help neighborhoods feel vibrant and supported. Through Better Claremont Playgrounds, I’ve seen what is possible when neighbors come together with optimism and a willingness to roll up our sleeves. Now is the time to bring that same collaborative and future-focused spirit to parks, public spaces, and the places where our community connects.

COMMUNITY VOICE FROM THE START

Too many decisions are made without fully hearing from the people who are most impacted by the outcome. Engagement often comes late or feels like a box to check, and our community deserves more. I am committed to a culture where residents are involved early, where conversations are open and respectful, and where seniors, families, everyday neighbors, and local businesses help shape the choices that affect them. When more voices are included, we make better decisions and build stronger trust across our city.

A MORE INNOVATIVE, FUTURE-READY CLAREMONT

We can honor what makes Claremont special while embracing ideas that help us adapt and thrive. That includes thoughtful planning, lively and inclusive parks and public spaces, safer and healthier neighborhoods, and policies that support families, seniors, students, and local businesses. I will work to make our city more innovative, more accountable, and more connected so Claremont can grow thoughtfully while preserving the character and community spirit we all value.
